Valentine's Day provides a great opportunity to strengthen your classroom community with a fun and engaging morning meeting. There are seven basic components to morning meetings and these ideas will make your February morning meeting activities more joyful and fun! From games to themed parties and classroom celebrations, this blog post will explore various ways to make this special day a wonderful time for your entire class. Let's dive into the best ways to add some Valentine's Day games and activities to your morning meeting.
Valentine’s Day Morning Meeting Activities
1. Love Message Magic
Set a heartwarming tone for the day with a Valentine-themed morning message. Consider adding messages from Cupid or a friendly love letter to create excitement and anticipation. Writing a letter to Cupid is a great idea to add to your Valentine's Day writing prompts.
2. Scavenger Hunt for Cupid's Arrows
Add an adventurous twist with a Valentine's scavenger hunt. Hide Cupid's arrows (crafted by students) around the classroom for a daily search, leading to a sweet treat like a Hershey's Kiss when found. Another idea is to hide different Valentine's Day pictures around the room and have the kids pair up on a scavenger hunt!
3. Valentine's Day Storytime
Integrate a Valentine's Day-themed read-aloud into your February morning meetings. Consider classics like “Love Monster” or “The Day It Rained Hearts” for a love-filled adventure.
4. Valentine's Day Bingo
Give each student a Valentine bingo card with different symbols. Have them play a quick game of bingo during one of your February morning meetings!
5. Love-Themed Word Challenges
Create a word find game on your board with Valentine-themed vocabulary. Use words such as love, heart, friendship, Cupid, etc. Have students take turns coming up to the board to circle the words in the puzzle.
6. Candy Heart Sight Words
Spice up sight word practice with candy hearts. Cut some pastel color construction paper “candy hearts” and write your sight words for the month on the hearts. Put them all in a small Valentine bag or box and have your students take turns passing the bag, pulling a heart, and reading the word during your February morning meeting time. It's an awesome way to have kids practice sight words in a fun way.
7. Valentine's Day Simon Say
Enjoy a game of Simon Says with a Valentine's Day twist during your February morning meetings. Incorporate actions like blowing kisses, forming hearts with hands, or shooting Cupid's bow and arrow.
8. Sing Valentine Songs
Head over here to YouTube for a list of cute Valentine's Day songs and videos that you can sing with your class during your February morning meeting time. My class loved it when I would let these songs play in the background when they first arrived in the morning or when they were doing their independent work.
9. Valentine Joke Of The Day
Your February morning meeting is a great time to incorporate a joke of the day. Kids will love Valentine-themed jokes like: How does Cupid deliver jokes all over the world? ….On an arrow-plane!
10. February Mystery Bag
Place an object related to February or Valentine's Day into a small paper bag. Make up 3 clues and have the students try to guess what's in the mystery bag from the clues. Make it even easier with February Mystery Bag slides like these! Use the mystery bag slides for little brain breaks throughout the week. Kids will love it!
Valentine's Day Morning Meeting Greetings
11. Heartfelt High-Fives
Start the day with love by having students grab their best friend and greet each other with heartfelt high-fives and saying, “Happy Valentine's Day!
12. Love-Themed Secret Handshake
Have each student choose a partner and create a Valentine theme secret handshake for your February morning meetings. Encourage kids to incorporate things like blowing a kiss, making heart hands, or making the sign language symbol for love. Secret handshakes are one of my student's favorite ways of saying hello.
13. Cupid's Arrow Greetings
Mimic the shape of Cupid's arrow with arms during greetings. Students can “shoot” arrows of love as they wish each other a good morning.
Valentine's Day Morning Meeting Literacy Activities
14. How Many Words From Valentine?
A great activity to do during your February morning meeting is to use magnetic letters or heart-shaped letter tiles to form the word VALENTINE on your board. Have students take turns coming up to the board to move the letters around to see how many different words they can make with the letters.
As the students think of new words, write a list of words on the board. Kids can make words such as: tin, van, net, etc. This is a fantastic way to practice word building skills in kindergarten and first grade.
15. Love-Themed Whiteboard Races
Give each student an individual whiteboard and a red Expo marker. Call out spelling words and have students race to see who can write their words the fastest. When they are done they must draw a red heart beside their word and show their board.
16. Valentine Sight Word Scramble
Cut some Valentine hearts from red construction paper. Choose a sight word and write the letters of the word on the hearts – one letter on each heart. Mix the hearts up and choose a student to come up and build the sight word correctly in a pocket chart. Do this activity with 3-4 sight words.
17. Valentine Vowel Hunt
Another fun activity for your February morning meeting is to write some CVC or CVCe words on sentence strips. In place of the vowel, draw a red heart. Make some red construction paper hearts and on each heart write one vowel – a, e, i, o, u.
Put the words in the pocket chart and have students take turns making words by putting a red heart vowel in the word. For instance write C ❤️ T on a card. Students will find a vowel and put it in place of the heart to make words like CAT or COT.
18. Heartbeat Syllable Sort
Cut some large pink construction paper hearts and write different Valentine's vocabulary on each heart. Write words like cupid, valentine, heart, candy, love, etc. Have students count the syllables by clapping or making heartbeats on their chest as they say the word.
Valentine's Day Morning Meeting Math Activities
19. Valentine’s Day Math Mystery Picture
Incorporate a mystery picture activity where students reveal a hidden Valentine-themed image by solving math problems or answering questions during morning meetings. For this activity, you can simply make a large picture of Cupid or another Valentine-themed picture.
Hang the picture on the board and then place small construction paper Valentine hearts on top of it with magnets. Write a different addition problem on the front of each heart. Choose students to solve the problems and if they get it right, remove the heart to begin to reveal the mystery picture. You can do all of the problems at once or spread them out over several days to reveal the picture at the end of the week.
20. Valentine's Day Patterns
Create some different Valentine themed picture cards on cardstock. You can use pictures like a cupid's arrow, different colored hearts, conversation hearts, chocolates, etc. Give each student a card and challenge the kids to come up with different patterns that they can make on a pocket chart.
21. Valentine's Day Addition Race
Practice some math facts during your February morning meeting time. Make a set of addition cards on construction paper heart shapes. Give each student a whiteboard and a red Expo marker. Divide students up into pairs and give each pair a set of 5-6 addition cards. Have students turn the cards over so they can't see the addition facts.
To play, have one student in each pair turn over the top card and race to see which person can solve it the fastest on their whiteboard. Play until they get through the entire stack of cards. It's an easy way for kids to practice math facts while still having fun!
22. Valentine's Measurement
Make a set of Cupid's arrows in different lengths. Put them in a pocket chart on the board. Make about 10 small red construction paper hearts and choose students to come up and measure each arrow with the hearts. Show students how to lay the hearts end to end without overlapping or leaving spaces between the hearts.

24. Daily Affirmations
Conclude each morning meeting with a positive daily affirmation that is student-friendly and uplifting for each child. It's the perfect way to have a positive start to each day in February.
