Valentine writing prompts are great to use during the month of February. I'm always looking for ways to get my students engaged and excited about writing and what better way than with candy! Take a look at how I use classic Valentine treats to entice my students into some opinion writing.

Do You Like Valentine Chocolates?
by Rachel Bright. This is the cutest story about a little monster who struggles with the decision to share the chocolates with his friends….but in the end he finds out that sharing with friends is the sweetest treat of all.
Do You Like Conversation Hearts?
I have to admit, conversation hearts are not one of my favorites. But love em' or hate em', these candies are a classic Valentine treat. We decided to give them a try and see what the fuss was all about!
I used a similar lesson format for this activity since we were continuing our opinion writing activities. I passed out some conversation hearts to each of the student so they could taste the candy. Then we made a chart with describing words.
They used this writing template to write their opinion and tried to use the OREO model in their writing. When they were finished they made a simple conversation heart craft.
