Japan activities are great fun and a perfect way to learn about other cultures in the classroom. We had fun studying Japan as we learned about Mount Fuji, the cherry blossom festival, and more! Come along as I tell you about our journey with these Japan activities for kids!
Japan Activities
We have a wonderful family, from Japan, that lives in our school district. They agreed to come in and start our unit off with a great presentation about Japan.
What do you know about Japan?
We started our unit with the question What do you know about Japan? I asked the students to help me complete this KWL chart with some of the things they already thought they knew about Japan. We worked on this chart throughout the unit.

The Japanese Flag
Japanese Traditional Clothing
Japanese Food
After this, we made these Bento Boxes. I made the actual paper box for my students ahead of time. The kids filled them with sushi, rice, fish, and veggies – made of paper, cotton balls, and fun foam!
Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival
We learned that the Cherry Blossom Trees bloom for about two weeks every year in Japan. The Japanese people believe that cherry blossoms are a symbol of the cycle of life. They have big festivals each year and picnic under the trees. We made this Japanese cherry blossom tree craft.
